What makes ADA grab bars compliant?

Specifics of ADA Grab Bars

The ADA has set out specific regulations for the construction and installation of grab bars. ADA grab bars must meet these requirements or the manufacturer could face fines for wrongly producing the bars. Here are the basic requirements for ADA grab bars. • First, the grab bar hand railing must be securely anchored, with a smooth surface that is easy to grasp. The conforming width is between 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 inches in diameter. • Proper ADA grab bars must be mounted between 34 and 38 inches off of the ground. • ADA grab bars that are projecting from a wall must have a space of 1-1/2 inches between the wall and the handrail. • The bars must have the ends rounded off, returned to a connection to the wall, or connect to posts.
